Parabens are controversial chemical preservatives that are found in most skin creams, as well as other beauty products. A number of studies report that parabens —methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl — can display estrogenic activity. In other words, parabens may mimic estrogen (which has been shown to stimulate breast cancer) and disrupt the endocrine system.
