How to properly apply eye shadow

It’s hard enough finding the right skin care products, the right moisturizer, the right eye cream, and the right cosmetics. However, it can be as hard to properly use them, especially if you want to go for a look that breathes discretion, sexiness and confidence.

Don’t get me wrong, everybody can put on some make-up. However, doing it the right way, can make the difference between looking hot or not. Sometimes, as I walk down the street, I can’t help but wonder how come, some women, get out of the house with that horrible make-up. And usually, the big mistake is their eye shadow. They don’t seem to be able to apply it right! So, let’s take a look at how you can correctly apply eye shadow!

Keep in mind that if you want your eye makeup to make you shine, you need to have well shaped eyebrows. So, make sure that you trimmed and tweaked them, so there is no extra hair that will distort your look.  If your eyebrows are set, then, the next step is to take a good look at your eyes.

Look at your positives and your negatives. Knowing what you need to accentuate and what you need to fade away, is primordial in applying eye shadow. Your eye shadow needs to enhance your beauty.

Keep in mind that eye shadow should never be too obvious. Eye shadow is used to create the illusion of shades and depths, so that it will bring forward all the good angles of your eyes.

You also need to consider the time of the day, when you apply your eye shadow. For nighttime, you should use smoky colors, and for daytime, you should use light colored eye shadows.

Now that we covered the basics, let’s get to the actual process of applying the eye shadow. You will want to cover the entire eyelid with a light eye shadow as a base, starting from your lash line, up to your brow.  Typically, there are two colors used to create depth, one lighter, one darker. The darker eye shadow needs to be applied the same way, but this time only on the lower eyelid.  Pay attention to the blending of the tones; there should be no visible change between them. To do this, you can use either your fingertips or a brush; simply spread one eye shadow over the other.  Pay attention to the area where the eye ends, because this should be well blended as well, making it look as the eye shadow is a natural part of your skin.

You’re almost there!  The next step is to use an eyeliner to draw a line over the entire upper portion of the lash. Carefully choose the thickness of the line – a thick line makes your eyes look smaller, and a thinner line makes your eyes look bigger.  Add mascara to add length and volume into your lashes and you’re done!
